Although summer is probably the best time for sea fishing as the warm weather brings a host of species into the shallows for spawning and hunting, there are other ways of feasting on nature’s bounty throughout the year. In summer mackerel, pollock, weavers and bass are the lure for both young and old anglers, but crustaceans can be caught all year round. The small green, almost-triangular, shore crabs may not be edible, but catching them requires no more than a piece of meat tied to a piece of string which is dangled into the water from a rock or pier – it even works in rockpools. In relatively calm conditions, bigger fish can be spun, lured or baited from rocky outcrops along the shore, but if you want to entertain younger (and older) members of the party, then boat trips from Dale around the waters of Milford Haven could hit the spot.
